Resource Library

We are happy to once again open the doors to our resource library. Our goal is to bring educational resources to more families so they may be better informed about autism, treatments, therapies, advocacy, education, and anything they may be interested in. Attaining resources can be costly for families already dealing with additional costs to care for their child or family member with a disability. We do not want cost to be a factor for families when they are in need of resources and information.

Click here for ABM's resource list. This will continue to be a work in progress. Feedback on new titles or resources to add to the library is always welcome. We appreciate any donations of gently-used books to add to our library. If you would like more information or would like to borrow from the library, please contact Patty at library@autismbridgesmaui.org.

Seminar/Conference Reimbursement Program

Autism Bridges Maui (ABM) created this program in 2009 because educating families with special needs is empowering for those individuals and part of ABM’s mission statement. This program was designed to help families cover some of the costs incurred to attend seminars, conferences, or trainings on the outer islands (not including Maui) or in the continental United States. Our goal is to see more Maui families attend conferences held off island in order to gain knowledge, support, and empowerment. With more information, these family members will be capable of providing a better quality of life for those with special needs and our small community on Maui.   Funds are limited. Through continued efforts in fundraising and our generous donors, we hope to be able continue this program long into the future.

Summer Camp with Camp Imua:  Camp Imua is an incredible Maui tradition that began in 1976. This Imua program has in the past provided a free, week-long recreational camp experience to fifty children with special needs and disabilities. This unique camp experience is open to any child age six to twenty with a disability or special need. Camp Imua is held each year in June at Camp Maluhia in the West Maui Mountains. Fifty campers and over one hundred volunteers come together for a week of crafts, games, swimming, helicopter rides and fun, all the while making new friends and catching up with old ones.  This year in 2011 they are struggling to raise the funds necessary to provide this camp for free.  They are asking all campers to raise $200 to help meet the financial needs of the camp.  Autism Bridges Maui would like to help families cover this cost so children can participate in this memorable, fun-filled week.  To learn more about Camp Imua, please see their website at: http://www.imuafamilyservices.org/imua.html

To learn more about how we can help you with the cost for Camp Imua, please contact info@autismbridgesmaui.org

Community Awareness

Police Recruit Trainings are held in conjunction with the Mental Health Association on Maui. Our goal is to provide new recruits information and awareness about individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. There are no telltale signs or physical characteristics of Autism. These first responders need to understand the sometimes subtle or indiscernible characteristics of autism when encountering individuals in the community. Our training covers recognizing characteristics and behaviors of autism, how to speak to someone on the spectrum, and the best way to handle different situations.

Thank you Wailea Community Association for donating the funds required to support this program both in 2009 and 2010.  Much Mahalo!
